Craigslist Rental Scams where you live

Craigslist is one involving my favorite sites online, though I admittedly have a very love/hate relationship with the idea. One reason I love for the reason that of the deals and various items and services offered, but I hate it because some of the people who use it are scammers plus the site has some significant security issues.

Once, I listed a home on Craigslist pertaining to rent. Scammers relisted the exact property for a third in the asking price. People located my home and would likely knock on my door to view the property, even following listing had expired.

Here’s how scammers develop Craigslist:

The scammer will backup and paste the ad after which it pose as the homeowner that's overseas on business. To get traffic, the scammer will list the ad for just it is being inquired. When a person responds on the ad, the scammer then tells them they might rent the property out and about, they simply need to forward the 1st month’s rent overseas. More people fall just for this than you would consider.

How did I curb this crime? I continuously scanned Craigslist for my ad to view if it was staying posted. When I observed any similar ads, I'd personally email the information for you to abuse@craigslist. com, and the corporation would take the article down. However, the scammer also was in addition to it, and kept putting up the ad again.

So how may you protect yourself from these kind of scams?

Use common impression, pay attention and always be smart.

Be careful about who you happen to be contacting and who contact lenses you.

Try to deal in your neighborhood when possible and always meet directly in a safe spot.

Do not engage in any online monetary transaction that will need you to send money to your stranger after they send money to you personally. This is a fraud.

Do not disclose fiscal information, Social Security numbers or any username and passwords.
