Samsung
Pay is here in Spain, marking the debut from the mobile payment service within
Europe.
Samsung
Spain corporate vice leader Celestino García said inside a statement released
on June 2 how the digitalization of the financial sector and high smartphone
penetration rate in Spain offer significant chance of Samsung's mobile payment
support.
He
cited findings of the company-commissioned research that display 60 percent of
Spaniards have an interest to use services such as Samsung Pay, which allows
them to make contactless repayment. A 2015 Visa statement showed that Spain is
the country most abundant in contactless payment terminals within Europe.
"We
are proud that Spain may be the first European market in order to introduce
Samsung Pay, an innovative new service that people believe will mark the
turning point both within Spaniards' payments behavior and also the evolution
of the payments market in general, " García said.
Clients
of imaginBank and CaixaBank that own a Galaxy S7/S7 advantage, Galaxy S6/S6
edge or even Galaxy S6 edge+ are now able to download the Samsung Spend app and
add their own credit or debit cards for their phone. Those who make use of
cards issued by Abanca as well as Banco Sabadell, however, would need to wait a
little lengthier.
Samsung
is currently working with businesses in the united kingdom to encourage
consumers to make use of its system. The department store string El Corte
Inglés has already been set to issue cards that could allow customers to
purchase items using Samsung's cellular payment service. Samsung can also be
working closely with Fridays, Starbucks, Cervecería Los angeles Sureña, Repsol,
The Wok and 100 Montaditos and it is expecting to add more partners later on.
Samsung
Pay's European launch came 6 months after the company guaranteed the arrival of
it's mobile payment service within UK, Spain and The far east, where it has
currently partnered with Alipay, China's biggest online payments platform.
Samsung's
arrival in The country gives it a mind start over its rivals Android Pay and
Apple Pay since the two have not already been launched there yet. Inside the
EU, Apple Pay and Android Pay are only available in the united kingdom.
The
South Korean technology company also plans in order to tap markets in South America,
Australia and Singapore. Within April, the company said it will roll out it's
mobile payment service for that Southeast Asian market using the launch of
Samsung Spend in Singapore later this season.
