In the
Electric Vehicle Symposium & Exhibit 29 in Montreal, BMW unveiled a house
energy storage system which will recycle the batteries from the i3 electric
vehicle.
Using
the move, BMW is joining Tesla Engines in utilizing its electrical vehicle
battery technology for use in your own home, with the carmaker mixing the i3's
charging station by having an extra battery pack.
The
additional battery pack, with capabilities of either 22 kWh or even 33 kWh, can
replenish from the normal energy grid and store electricity generated with a
home's solar panels. The system may also be programmed to charge in the
batteries during times whenever rates for electricity usage would be the
lowest.
The
system may then be used as a backup supply of power whenever there tend to be
power outages, or as the main electric source for the home throughout peak
times, when the rates of electricity usage would be the highest.
These
mirror the capabilities and functions from the Tesla Powerwall, which the
organization announced in May of this past year.
BMW's
home energy storage system can utilize repurposed batteries from the i3
electric vehicle, which will expand the holistic sustainability from the car
and support the next thing of energy independence as well as efficiency that
BMW is seeking to provide to its clients. This is different in the Tesla
Powerwall, which uses dedicated batteries and not those that can be seen within
the electric vehicle offerings associated with Tesla Motors.
Batteries
from the i3 that'll be used for BMW's house energy storage system won't have to
undergo any adjustments. Once a battery must be replaced, it can be taken off
the vehicle and simply inserted to the system, which provides customers by
having an alternative to sending away the used batteries with regard to
recycling.
The
catch, nevertheless, is that there are no used i3 batteries that will be ready
to be used for the machine, as the program isn't yet in place. BMW,
