The following version of OS X might be called ‘MacOS’

It’s a little branding change, but it would make lots of sense. Many different signs indicate Apple abandoning the name “OS X” in support of “MacOS”, or maybe “macOS” with no capital letter.

Apple SVP of Globally Marketing Phil Schiller first hinted only at that change last year at WWDC within an interview with John Gruber. A configuration file mentioned macOS rather than OS X. And lastly, a page on Apple’s personal website said MacOS rather than OS X to explain Apple’s environmental initiatives.

That’s a great deal of smoke. And TechCrunch has also heard that this may be announced at WWDC within June.

This isn’t the very first time Apple has rebranded its operating-system for Mac. When the successor associated with Mac OS 9 was initially announced, it was known as Mac OS X. Apple company dropped the “Mac” component in 2012.

At time, Apple wanted to differentiate these devices from the software component. iPhone OS became iOS within June 2010 as iOS operates on iPhones and iPads.

However, since then, Apple has released two new platforms depending on iOS. The Apple TELEVISION now runs tvOS, and also the Apple Watch runs watchOS. You can observe the trend, right?

OS X now appears like an outdated brand when compared with Apple’s other platforms. Likewise, keeping “ten” in the name shows that OS X’s version number may be stuck for 15 many years now. The reality is really a bit different as Apple company releases major versions of its Mac operating-system every year.

But the matter that makes me believe which OS X is in route out is much more obvious. Apple is going to announce iOS 10 from WWDC in June. Designers, journalists and Apple itself are likely to talk about iOS 10 with regard to months.

The iOS 10 as well as OS X names sound far too similar, especially when you hear someone referring to these operating systems. Rebranding OS X in order to MacOS would unify Apple’s operating-system naming scheme, but it might be a much welcomed alter to keep everyone on a single page when talking about new os's.
